Botox was originally developed for a broad range of muscle and glandular issues; the cosmetic uses are completely separate from the broad medical benefit provided by the drug. It is important for a pharmaceutical company such as Allergan, the makers of Botox, to track new uses for the drug and its acceptance in the medical community.
Conquent was given the task of creating a complex data structure to track policies regarding the drug, acceptable diagnoses (using ICD9 codes) for which the drug will be beneficial, and the correlating procedure (CPT) code for how the drug is administered.
The team created an application that allows contractors and temporary staff to input a great deal of data through a simplified interface. In turn, our reporting tools bring all the data together into powerful and flexible reports for Allergan management to review the current trends and uses of the medication. Because the database interface is in a web browser, management can access reports from anywhere in the world at any moment the information is needed.
Bottom line: Because of Conquent's work, Allergan now has a powerful tool to continue to develop and enhance its contribution to the medical industry.
